Achieving Fitness: Plan for Results

You must have a plan and goals in order to make progress. Without knowing where you’re going, how can you tell if you’re making progress toward getting there? Developing a solid plan will keep you on track and motivated. Setting goals – and then achieving them – will bring satisfaction and keep you moving forward. Here are some tips to help you get going.

Plan

Getting fit involves more than just showing up to the gym when you have time and doing a few exercises or riding a stationary bike. Start with a plan that includes nutritional changes you need to make, exercise routines, days and times for training, and a budget for a gym membership or personal trainer.

Set Goals

Set both short term and long term goals. Short term goals will help you judge your progress and keep you moving forward toward your log term goals. Examples f short term goals might be run 2 miles in 20 minutes or less, bench press your bodyweight, or do 20 pushups. These baby steps will keep you moving forward. Give you r plan time to work. It took years to get out of shape, it is going to take time and effort to overcome that and get back to fitness.

Keep a Log

A daily log of what you eat and what exercises you did will help you track your progress. An exercise log will let you see how you are getting stringer. A food journal is especially helpful when it comes to pinning down unhealthy eating habits. You might be surprised at how much you really eat in a day!

Get a Partner

Having a partner can be one of the best motivating strategies. When you have a responsibility to fulfill to someone else, and not just yourself, you are more likely to fulfill it. You know your partner is relying on you and that can give you the motivation you need not to skip that workout. Try to pick someone with a similar level of fitness and similar goals.

Keep it Fun

Try new things. Use new machines, take a yoga class or some martial arts. Mixing it up will keep it interesting and fun, and keep you coming back for more.

Take Measurements

Changes to your appearance can sneak up on you and those around you. Gradual changes flash by unnoticed. To see the effects your plan is having, take photos and measurements. Update them once a week. You’ll be surprised at the changes you’ll see when you look back!
