Cholesterol Results #2, February 2010

Well, it’s a month late, but I finally got my cholesterol results.  I last had results taken at the end of October. I missed the Novemeber screening, the gym didn’t have one in December, and I forgot to go in January. So It’s been 4 months since my last cholesterol check.

I confess to being sloppy with my diet and supplements. For the last month or so, I’ve been taking:

All taken in the morning. Over the holidays, I was hit and miss, in that some days (or more than a few in a row) I didn’t take any supps at all. I’ve also been eating way too many carbs – bread, pasta, chips – snack food mostly. I need t get back on the CBO but good, although the prospect of eating nothing but chicken, black beans, green beans, and onions cooked in olive oil for the rest of my life is enough to make me wish for death.

Yeah, yeah, on to the results.

I’ve got good news and bad. Let’s go with the bad first: My cholesterol was 239. Ouch. That’s up from 198 in October.

The good news: My HDL was 56, which gave me a ratio of 4.3.

In October, my ration was 4.11, so a 4.3 isn’t too bad. So despite an elevated cholesterol reading, my risk factor remains normal. I need to get it down to around 3.4 to cut my risk factor in half.

So here are all the numbers:

Total Cholesterol (<200)

Triglycerides (<150)

HDL (>40)

LDL (<100)

Ratio (<4.98 for normal risk, <3.44 for half risk )

Too bad my cholestrol spiked 41 points! If I could get it around 200, and keep my HDL the same, I’d have a ratio under 4, which would be nice. I’d also like to get my LDL down….

So I don’t think I’m in danger of dropping dead from a heart attack right now, but there’s still work to be done.

I’ll TRY to remeber to do the screening again at the end of this month.
