29 November Cholesterol Screening Results

I’ve got some good news, and some bad news….

Good news first I guess. I got my cholesterol results today from the screening I had done on 29 November:

This is interesting because this is the first time my cholesterol has been under 200 in over 6 years. The results of a screening I had in May:

Ouch. That ratio puts my cardiac risk factor atĀ  between 2 – 3 times normal.

So obviously you’re thinking What has this guy done different to turn himself from a walking heart attack into a normal human?

Well, the ONLY thing I’ve done different is my CBO diet. I actually started this diet about 6 weeks ago in an attempt to shed some bodyfat (not that I’m fat – I was around 15% and wanted to get under 10% – no, I’m not there, I’m around 11 or 12 now).

So the good news is that I’m no longer 2-3 timesĀ more likely to to drop dead of a heart attack. The bad news is that these cholesterol reading sort of make this blog anti-climatic. I mean, my cholesterol and other levels (except for LDL, which is slightly high) are in the desirable range and place me firmly in the normal level of risk category.

Never fear though, I’ll keep up the experiment to see if the supplements make any additional difference. I’d like to see my LDL get under 100, where it’s supposed to be. And it would be nice to get the ration to 3.4 or less, since then I’d be in the 1/2x risk category. Be extra cool if I could get total cholesterol down in the 150s – I haven’t been there since my mid 20s.

And to think a year ago my physician wanted to put me on Lipitor. Fuck that.
